Gully A Point Away From Securing A Finals Place

Matthew Sanders Scores The Winner

For the second consecutive week the Green Gully have turned around a one-nil deficit to win by two goals to one.
This week the opponent was a finals contender in Dandenong Thunder, and Gully capitalised on the "six-pointer".
The Cavaliers will now just need to secure a draw away to Heidelberg next week to be assured of a finals place in the 2010 finals series.

For the third consecutive week the Green Gully coaching staff have been forced to alter the starting eleven.
Unfortunately midfielder Jonathan Munoz is likely to miss the rest of the season, after falling victim to a knee injury sustained from an unpunished two footed challenge away to the Sunshine Georgies, and striker Gary Wales departed to seek his fortune on European soil. In some good news, Kiwi attacking midfielder Jason Hayne returned to the club to see out the remainder of the season.

Goalscorer Joshua Groenewald

Much like the first time these two teams played each other earlier this season, Green Gully enjoyed the majority of
possession but were caught out on the counter attack. After 30 minutes of play, Dandenong scored from their first strike on the Gully goal. Dandenong's Denis Ukalovski kicked the ball with the power of a horse, and though Gully Goalkeeper Nikola Roganovic managed to get a hand on the ball, could not prevent the visitors from opening the scoring.

Gully continued to dominate possession throughout the remainder of the match, and it wasn't until the introductions of substitutes did Gully manage to break down a stubborn Dandenong defense. Joshua Groenewald replaced Timothy Gould in midfield, after Timothy was hit in the head by a heavy knock from the ball in the first half, and Matthew Sanders and Michael Anderson came on late in the second half. Groenewald got the equaliser in the 80th minute converting a Steven Burton cross, and Matthew Sanders got the winner five minutes later with a fine individual run down the middle of the pitch.

Speaking after the match, Gully Striker Brent Fisher was happy to speak of his participation in Gully's winning form;
"Unfortunately when I came to the club, I got an injury that put me out for five weeks, but now have managed to play again at the right time of the season, going into the finals. We want to win our last two games, to finish as high as we possibly can."
