Tower Of Strength - Brent Fisher

The Green Gully Cavaliers have won their first finals fixture in five years, with a highly impressive 3-1 victory over Hume City at Epping Soccer Stadium. Brent Fisher was the hero of the night for the Cavaliers, scoring a brace and having a huge influence over the match for the majority of the game. A Steven Burton penalty minutes from fulltime, made certain of the result.

In a tight first half, which ended goalless for both teams, started out promisingly for Hume City, with Hume striker Zoran Petrevski in early with a great chance at goal, but lifting his shot over the Gully crossbar. Midway through the first half, Petrevski again had a great opportunity at the Gully goal, but his throughball was ruled offside against Hume. Just prior to the halftime break, Gully's best chance fell for striker Matthew Sanders, but his strike across the face of goal just whistled past the back post.

Steven Burton Converts Spot Kick

The second half started very well for the Cavaliers, with Andy Vargas getting in behind the Hume defense on the right wing, and slipping a short and effective cross into Brent Fisher who turned and squeezed a shot past the Hume defenders on the goalline. Gully looked set to cruise to a 1-0 victory, however 20 minutes from time, against the run of play Ritchie Cardozo placed a perfect strike on the Gully goal into the top left corner past Gully goalkeeper Nikola Roganovic.

Hume then looked to have the momentum. However, Gully's Brent Fisher wasn't done yet. A speculative long ball found Fisher on the edge of the Hume penalty area, Fisher controlled, turned his marker and shot a bullet past Hume's goalkeeper Lou Acevski.

Speaking after the match Brent Fisher stated ahead of the upcoming fixture against Richmond "We scored a goal against them that wasn't counted, so we owe them one.".
