|Mile Medjedovic Produces something special in the 2011 Mirabella Cup– Quarter Final|
Match 1 of Pool B in the 2011 Mirabella Cup– Quarter Final Series saw Green Gully and Hume City playing under lights at Green Gully Reserve. It was perfect weather condition where a good crowd saw an entertaining match. The first 20 minutes saw both teams testing each other out, making it an even contest. The first chance of the match came in the 24th minute when a Andy Vargas free kick 25 yards out was perfectly delivered in the 6 yard box to the feet of Mile Medjedovic who blasted the ball just over the crossbar.
Another chance fell to Jeffrey Fleming who tried his luck from just outside the 18 yard box only to spray his shot just wide, Acevski diving to his left taking no chances after a wonder shot from Fleming on the weekend hitting the target and the back of the net.
Towards the end of the first half Gully seem to have lost concentration and Hume making the most of this opportunity with Vlahos, Petrevski and Cardozo pushing forward. Hume winning 3 consecutive corner kicks through their hard work and pressure up front. A corner kick taken short onto Petrevski who took one touch and a shot on goal just went wide. Seconds later it was Petrevski who threatened Gully again by shooting from outside the 18 yard box and just over the crossbar.
In the second half Hockless came on for Andy Vargas and made an immediate impact and Gully started to push forward through Stephen Downs and Pasquale Vizzari. Hume also pushed forward however could not penetrate Gully’s defence who were far superior on the night. In the 65th minute Matthew Sanders winning the ball in the midfield spotted and passed the ball to Cameron Drake who laid the ball on the running Vizzari out on the right wing. Vizzari winning a corner kick for Gully which was taken by Hockless. Hockless taking a quick corner kick delivered a perfect ball to Mile Medjedovic who magically volleyed the ball from a direct corner kick, a special goal and a well deserved goal. Hume’s best chance to equalize came from Petrevski just minutes later, somehow Petrevski managed to get behind Gully’s defence and also managed to bend the ball over the keeper from a difficult angle. Thankfully for Gully Matthew Sanders was there to clear the ball off the line.
